Appearance: Like his twin brother, Basch, Gabranth appears to be of European descent, with short blond hair and brown eyes. As a matter of fact, the only real way to tell them apart is the fact that Basch has a scar just above his left eye. However, the fact that he looks near-identical to Basch is usually hidden under his magisterial armor, which covers him from head to foot. The only way to tell him apart from any of the other Judge Magisters is by the shape of his helmet. His has a pair of downward facing 'horns' made of the same metal as the rest of the helmet. The only other thing to mark him as a Judge Magister of the Archadian Empire is a black cape with a red half-wheel design on the back.

Personality: Although Gabranth did, in fact, voluntarily join the Archadian Empire after the fall of Landis he's never really gotten over the fact that in doing so he has, effectively, sold his honor, eventually growing to resent that fact - a resentment that he transfers over to Basch for the simple reason that even in disgrace he still manages to hold on to his honor. However, he is nonetheless true to his word and loyal to those he has sworn to serve. On a similar note, if he says he'll do something, he will - even should it mean going against those he has sworn to serve. After all, it's all he has left if he has no honor.
Nonetheless, he is capable of being nice, it just that he usually isn't and sees no reason to be so even it weren't for the bitterness getting in the way half of the time.

Abilities/Weaponry: Like many of the Judge Magisters, Gabranth's wields a pair of swords in battle. In battle, these can either be used as a pair of single-handed swords or combined hilt-to-hilt to make a single double-bladed polearm type of weapon. For the most part however, he prefers to use them as a set of single-handed swords. In addition, he is also capable of a variety of magical abilities. These are largely fire-based in nature and are rarely seen outside of combat-type situations.

Weaknesses: The most noticeable is the fact that he has yet to get over the fact that he's serving the empire that destroyed his homeland. This is turn has led to no small amount of internal turmoil, especially in the proximity of his brother. Possibly as a side effect of this he no longer believes that he has a right to the name 'Noah'. Also of note is the fact that it is very easy to convince him to do things, and doubly so for those of the ruling family of the Archadian Empire.
The fact that he's sided with the people who were responsible for the destruction of his homeland is also something of a sore spot for him and one that he's never really gotten over.

History: Relatively little is known about about Gabranth's childhood years past the fact that like his twin he was born (and presumably raised) in Landis. At some point during his childhood the Archadian Empire invaded Landis. Although the exact date is never given in canon, this probably took place at least a good ten years before the beginning of the main story of the game, if not more. Basch flees to Dalmasca to avoid capture by the Empire; Gabranth - still going by the name Noah fon Ronsenberg at that point - does the exact opposite and opts to join the Empire. Once there he managed to climb the ranks of the Archadian Army, eventually attaining the rank of Judge Magister. Somewhere along the way he left his birth name behind, taking up the name Gabranth instead.
Years later, Gabranth and Basch's paths cross at Nalbina Fortress - Dalmasca's last stand against the Empire, although not across the battlefield. Instead, Gabranth kills the king of Dalmasca while impersonating his brother. As a result Basch is charged with treason and sent off to his death while Archadia takes over Dalmasca. However, Basch isn't executed, and two years later he manages to escape from his imprisonment with the help of Balthier, Fran and Vaan.
Upon realizing that Basch has somehow managed to keep his honor even in disgrace, Gabranth turns against his brother in confusion and disgust - even going so far as to tell the Archadian Emperor that he'll cut his brother down. His first attempt to make good on his promise comes atop the Ridorana Pharos. However, he doesn't succeed and is instead quickly defeated by the party. In the confusion that follows the arrival of Doctor Cid shortly thereafter and the destruction of the Sun Cryst, Gabranth finds himself no longer in Ivalice, but in Paixao instead.
